Blast At Mecca Masjid

There had been a blast at Hyderabad's 400 year old Mecca Masjid adjoining the Charminar on 18th May during the afternoon prayers at 1.22PM.

10 innocent lives were lost in the blast while another 6 people perished in the ensuring police firing. After the blast, the police reacted in such a questionable manner that they pushed everyone coming out of the Mosque back into the Mosque. When people started resisting this and started throwing stones at the police, the police responded by firing - that too above waist level and with live ammo instead of rubber bullets. It is later found that there were two more bombs in the mosque which were defused by the Bomb Disposable Squad in questionable means. The bombs were de-activated without using any protective shield and with people just around 10 feet away.

This shows that the Hyderabad Police is not yet ready to tackle such situations and refusing to learn lessons. Preliminary investigations revealed the handiwork of Islamic Militant outfits like Jaish-e-muhammad and Lashkar-e-toiba in the blast to create disturbances in the otherwise peaceful city.

Muslims, who were generally close to the Majlis-Ittehadul-Muslimeen political party, have turned against them and chose to remain calm instead of resorting to violence. This is a very positive sign for the city. Muslims have to identify the terrorists among them and hand them over to the authorities so that they donot face bomb blasts in their religious places by their own people.
